A good business idea could change your life. Orange Win Your Business could be the competition to kick that change. This article is a follow up to my first post about the competition. In this post I will detail what are the best practices to give you the best opportunity to win up to £200,000.
Orange have been supporting new and different businesses for many years. During my time at Fibixio I had a first hand experience of this, as we had support from senior employees of Orange. Their support was worth every minute, as they had the experience of being in a senior position in a large corporation, and they were able to give us good business advice.
Before you dive into the Different Business competition, I would highly recommend you have a think about the following points. These points are things the judges of the competition will be looking for in your entry.
The judges are looking for a business that is different – how is your business different, and how does it stand out from the competition? Do you have a different approach to running your business; if so, how? This will be of high interest to the judges.
Orange are looking to find a business with a robust business model and clear strategies. They want to know that you have researched the market you want to enter with your business. My advice to you on that is, research the market in great detail and focus on your niche. Look at your competitors and find out how they are doing, and write down ways how you can successfully enter that niche and perform better than your competitors. I would recommend using site like Linkedin.com and Deudil.com to find out more about your competition.
In your application you will also need to demonstrate to the judges that you have the necessary skills to succeed, and if you are lacking in some skills, how you will work around that. You may decide to take the necessary training to gain that skill. You also have the options to get the staff with the right missing skills involved in the business, or outsource that particular work to resources outside of the company.
You must prove in you r application that you have a business idea that is worth funding and that could turn out to be the UK’s next different business.
The prize is worth up to £200,000, and includes: business planning advice and mentoring from Kingston Smith, mobile communications devices and plans from Orange, marketing consultancy from Publicis Chemistry, legal advice from Lewis Silkin, along with the investment capital.
This is a fantastic opportunity for any entrepreneur, if you have any questions or would like some help with your application, please leave a comment. I would be delighted to hear from you.
