The self-employed always need to be ready to show off their business and if you’re self-employed you should not be afraid to indulge in a bit of self-promotion when it is appropriate.
A great way to market your business is to use promotional products, as these can highlight your brand, call to action and contact details to prospective clients. However, you need to make sure you choose the right mix of items, which should be a combination of practical and fun gifts.
Why choose promotional gifts?
Research by the British Promotional Merchandise Association (BPMA) found that 69 per cent of businesses use promotional merchandise because it targets customers effectively. On top of this, 52 per cent think a brand message lasts longer on a promotional gift (as opposed to another marketing ‘channel’). Approximately 46 per cent of marketers believe it is a great way to generate customer loyalty.
Promotional merchandise provides entrepreneurs with a cost-effective way to stay in touch with their target audience and leave a lasting impression. The main decision facing the self-employed is what products they are going to carry with them while out and about.
Pens
A classic and hugely practical, most people will use a pen every day in work. Indeed, BPMA research discovered it is the most popular form of promotional merchandise, with 35 per cent of buyers opting for them. There are a range of styles and shapes available – such as those offered by promotional product providers like 4imprint – depending on who entrepreneurs are looking to target.
For example, those seeking to put forward a green message should distribute eco-friendly pens, while those targeting the high-end market can choose top-quality fountain pens.
USB sticks
USB sticks are an essential piece of IT kit for most people that use a laptop of PC. Whether it is for making back-up copies of special projects, or just saving data that can then be transferred from computer to computer with ease, these handy devices can be invaluable. Recipients of promotional USBs are likely to use their flashdrive for months, if not years!
Of course, because of their size, USBs are portable and can be distributed easily – whether in person or as part of a larger direct mail campaign.
Cards
Entrepreneurs are typically on the move a lot of the time trying to drum up business which is why entrepreneurs should have a compelling business card.
Easy to transport and always a good resource, these are rightly seen as the standard bearer when it comes to promoting a business. If you’re self-employed don’t be afraid to experiment with style and layout to ensure you stand out from the crowd!
