SP Studios talk to The Startup Magazine

SP Studios is a media company providing many audio and visual services and solutions, from video production and photography to Professional audio and event coverage SP Studios does it all and much more!

What void does your company aim to fit in the industry? What gap in the market are you serving?

At SP Studios our philosophy is to bridge the gap between the professionals and the consumers, by providing professional quality services at affordable prices within the local vicinity of the community. To give customers a place to express their hobbies and talents in a professional environment and giving them a head start in the industry, whether it be a musician, model or small business, we can provide them with what they need to accomplish something in their trade.

How does your company  stand out from competitors in the industry?

There are several key features which help SP Studios stand out in the industry, first of which is the Brand that has a steady footing in various industries our logo can be seen at the forefront of many high profile celebrity events, music releases and fashion brands, which adds strength to the brand as a trusted company. Secondly we have our own media platform on Youtube and a strong social media following which helps us promote not only our services and achievements but the works of our clients given them more exposure

What challenges/threats does your industry currently face?

The threats we encounter here can almost be described as a candle wick being burned at both ends, on One side we have the threat from our experienced counterparts, where our market penetration low pricing strategies used initially to capture more market share, could be matched or undercut by our bigger competitors and stunt our growth. Then you have the everyday consumer with professional equipment readily available for purchase in the high street stores many are opting to apply a DIY method instead of using professionals.

How have you overcome / are planing to overcome these challenges?

Many of our competitors don’t have the exposure we have right now our strong web and social media presence keeps us relevant against some of our bigger more experienced rivals. Our pricing and service packages give us strength here also as we undercut our rivals, as for the everyday consumer, a lot of them realise its not as easy as it looks and where they may be able to film, capture, record themselves, to get a professional finish isn’t aways easy! We provide services for mixing and editing giving them a reason to still use our services.

What trends are you currently seeing in your space?

The popularity of audio and visual media is a forever growing industry due to new technologies and trends such as high quality camera phones, Tube Channels (i.e. You Tube), Teen magazines glamorising models and celebrity status.
Music being a popular hobby and television shows such as ‘X factor’ and ‘Britains Got Talent’ and blog sites such as ‘Bandcamp’ & ‘Soundcloud’ have capitalised on this market by encouraging an average person to maybe per sue a music artist career
Like wise withe Apps like ‘Instagram’ and Camera phones alongside social networking sites have made way for an increasing notion for the public to look good and take more pictures. Throughout social networking sites such as ‘Tumblr’ and ‘Facebook’ you can see more and more people with model shots and boudoir poses creating the need for good quality photos to be taken.

What have been the most prolific innovations or advances in the industry in the last few years?

Most prolific advances the last few years industry wise… I would have to say Portable Media is one of the largest growing sectors in the media with there being so many devices allowing the usage of videos, images and audio on the go with 3G and wifi capabilities. its provided this need for new content daily.
Faster Broadband has allowed the consumer to watch streaming media live or on demand at his or her convenience. It has also made it sooo much easier and faster to upload content for consumers also.
Which brings me to my next point…Youtube… Youtube changed everything! So much talent is just simply uploaded by a consumer, which gave us the ability to help people create their content .
Oh and Twitter… Its amazing for networking!

Is there a specific person or company that has been an influence on your career in this industry?

To be honest with you theres been quite a few, you have Tinie Tempah a local rapper that set me on the path to creating the initial recording studio. I drew business influence from 50 Cent, I just liked the way he worked! Then you have the greats like Steve Jobs who taught me innovation, quality and design! And Richard Branson who demonstrated the strength of a brand.

What do you aim to achieve with your company  over the coming year?

In the next year or so I aim to make SP Studios a forefront leader of its field with the capability to endorse products and services that will create buzzes and set trends. I hope to make our media platform a hub for the latest entertainment and loved by the masses. I have goals to expand our production team so we can start working on TV Show and feature films. And most importantly obtain a nice new building in which SP Studios can call its home!

How do you think your company  will change and influence your industry over the coming year?

I think SP Studios will do what its always done, and thats motivate others to start their own path in the industry, competition is healthy! I hope SP Studios as a brand will have the power to make or break careers within its chosen fields. And as Steve Jobs influenced technological design I hope in the coming year we could set out on a path do something similar in our productions.

What advice can you give to newcomers to your industry, or the startup space in general?

If you have a passion for something follow it and do not give it up, I think its so important to be happy in life and I know life can seem like its forever tipping to the negative but if you have ideas, dreams, ambitions FOLLOW THEM and don’t give up! If you want something to happen you’ve got to start the process, if you don’t know how? Learn!

SP Studios was actually built of the back of Google “How to…” searches and Ebay …Just think about that for minute!
