In all written records, the oldest reference to a folded umbrella dates back to the year 21 AD. However, they still misbehave on windy days and most irritatingly, they still get lost. According to the Global Umbrella Survey, nearly five umbrellas are lost in our lifetime. Kisha has come up with the perfect solution, putting themselves forward on the market as makers of the last umbrella you’ll ever buy!
Kisha started with a Facebook post from one of the founders who complained about long periods of heavy rain in their hometown in Rijeka, Croatia and commented on how it would be great to create an umbrella you could never lose. This grand idea was turned into a reality in December 2014, with the first Kisha umbrella, trackable due to its built- in beacon technology.
Kisha connects your umbrella to your mobile phone via Bluetooth, and when paired with an app, the umbrella will send a warning if it has been left behind.The umbrella can also be tracked on a map. The idea is to prevent you from leaving the umbrella anywhere unintended You are able to select your own ‘safe’ locations such as your car, home, or office, preventing you from receiving unwanted notifications.
Another fascinating feature of the app is that it lets you know the weather forecast for the day ahead in your current location. This includes telling you the chance of rainfall, whilst providing you with advice as to whether you should take Kisha with you or leave it at home.
The umbrella itself is 100% windproof and corrosion-proof, with “perfect stitching" and 16 polyurethane ribs. The polyurethane ribs combined with the extra joint allows the Kisha umbrella to withstand winds of up to 120mph (193 km/h), bending rather than breaking in strong winds.
At £39, Kisha is a lot more expensive in comparison to the average umbrella. Despite this, the price should be seen as a rational investment, especially if you are constantly losing and re-purchasing your umbrella.
