We are seeing a continued struggle in the economy as the end of 2017 looms into view. More and more managers are experiencing difficulty in motivating their employees. This is particularly the case since employees are seeing a cut back on their perks so that lower costs can be achieved. What can you do as a manager to keep employee motivation levels high, even when it seems hard to do so? The 6 tips below are worth trying:
Tip 1 – Inspiration
Be a role model and provide inspiration for employees to recognize what excites them at work. Next ensure that they have projects which will engage their passion – remember if an employee is happy, they will also be motivated!
Tip 2 – Direction
Have a clear outline of the strategy, mission and vision of the organization, this should also include goals and objectives for every employee (be sure to include the employee when you define these). Be sure that every member of the team fully understands the essential role which they play in the team’s success. Make sure that every employee works in harmony with the overall goals, this will mean they can lend each other a helping hand. When there is a positive energy in the team, everyone will feel more motivated.
Tip 3 – Empowerment
Give power to your employees to be successful. Delegate tasks which are challenging and purposeful – most people have a desire to be successful and continue to grow. Make sure you provide opportunities for employees to do this.
Tip 4 – Training
Work along with each employee so that they have their own personal development strategy. Once in place, ensure they have the right coaching and training so they can improve their skills and feel a sense of accomplishment.
Tip 5 – Recognition
Keep a check on how well your employees are moving towards their goals – couple this with rewards for positive accomplishments, this will keep motivation levels high. Such may include recognition in ear shot of peers and other rewards which, while not expensive in monetary terms, will mean a lot to the employee.
Tip 6 – Environment
The environment is important for workers. Ensuring that it is a comfortable place for them to spend their time can be very important. Employees like to be happy in their space and you can aid this with better ergonomic furniture, motivational efforts and even little touches such as motivational wall decals. All of these things can add up to being greater than the sum of their parts. In tandem, they help greatly with motivation.
Keeping your employees in top notch motivational condition, allows you to reap the rewards and I hope these six tips will help make it easier to do so.
