How does your startup stand out against it’s competitors?
Noel Bookkeeping offers a fixed fee service and this includes a variety of accounting services each month. We are experts on Xero Accounting and we like to be at the forefront of technology and cloud innovations. I’m not a traditional accountant, but instead someone who helps creative and innovative minds. We love working with free-spirited creative minds and we draw inspiration from helping others, so we won’t try to change your vision or bog you down with the boring stuff. The heart of our business is efficiency, fresh-thinking and positivity.
Where did the idea for the startup come from?
I graduated in 2009 with a BA (Hons) 2:1 Accounting & Finance, however it was hard finding a position with my ideal company. Before starting my business I was on the path to becoming a traditional accountant. I worked full-time and I make a good employee but inside I have a passionate spirit for development and efficiency. And I have an inner thirst for creativity and fresh ideas.
Growing up I noticed that the people close to me were terrified of having to pay taxes and start businesses. So I decided to try and reach ideal people I could help and enjoy working with by starting my own business.
What is your business background, and what got you interested in startups?

Rockstar Youth Mentoring helped develop my interest in startups and supported me getting started.
How long has the your startup been in the making, and who is the team behind the business?
I have been in the bookkeeping and accounting field for over 5 years. When I was in college I started doing basic bookkeeping in my spare time for friends and family. I communicate with clients and oversee all of the work myself. My star team is made up of two other assistant bookkeepers, as well as, an IT technician and marketing consultant.
What has been your biggest challenge so far as a startup owner?
My greatest challenge has been marketing and advertising – being an introvert this is my scariest area. However, working with mentors and the right marketing experts has given me more confidence.
In the coming year, what would you like to achieve with your business?
As the business grows I hope to take on more graduates. I don’t desire having people shuffling paper in an office 9-5 so we will stay virtual. In the future I hope to have a ‘Hub’ – where staff and clients can meet up and collaborate when needed. We will have a totally modern work culture that allows flexibility and workers can choose to work from home without any problems. Most of all I hope that by being myself and offering a consistently great bookkeeping service clients will enjoy working with me for years to come. When I reach 100 clients I will put on an annual ball so we can all meet and enjoy ourselves outside of work!
If you could give one piece of advice to someone thinking about starting a business, what would it be?
Small business ownership is the way forward for the next generations. If you have a dream business idea you can make your dream become a reality, so get the support you need to get over your fear. Its takes 100% dedication but I know that will love the independence as much as I do!
