What is required to be an Events Manager?

Finance & Marketing skills.
A large part of effective Events Management revolves around agreeing timescales and negotiating budgets with potential clients, as well as contractors and suppliers, not to mention booking venues and equipment. Sound financial planning skills are a necessity, as are marketing skills, for managing publicity, running effective social media campaigns, even overseeing sponsorship deals.
Teamwork & Leadership skills.
You’ll be leading a team, and the chances are it will be a very large and very diverse team, with this level of responsibility, it’s the area where your interpersonal skills will shine, and the ability to multi-task will really pay dividends. The decisions you make and the oversight you have of what is being done, what needs to be done, by whom and how quickly, will ensure your event runs perfectly, giving you a feeling of satisfaction that few other jobs can compete with.
Communication skills.
Whether you are liaising with the catering contractor or negotiating rates for a famous band, your success will depend on your communication skills. As events approach, workloads tend to increase, and the need for good, clear communication becomes more essential. Your strong communication skills will give you great awareness, along with the ability to ensure that everything goes the way you need it to.
Overall, an Events Manager has a role with a lot of varied responsibilities, and at times, a workload to match.
